Woofy Yums’ online contest saw more than 200 furry entries from all over the country. A first hand account by Jojo.
Remember the time you picked up a crying puppy from across the dump? How your mom shrieked? But you pleaded with her to let it stay and promised to take care of the puppy and that it will not spoil anything in the house? One look at the puppy’s eyes told you that it trusted you.
That was the bond which carries. You ignored all the sneers and people’s disgust on your visits to the vet or park with your desi kid. It was again those eyes of trust which made you love it. That was the bond which carries on. The commitment, bond is what we strive to honour. This is where Woof Yums in association with The Buddy Life steps in. Woof Yums, in its bid to encourage adoption and create awareness about indie stray dogs launched India’s
first ever beauty contest for indie breeds, “Ms Desi, Mr Desi – It’s time to honour Indian Breed”, last year. The online contest saw more than 200 entries fromall over the country.
This year during the month of February, Woof Yums launched the ninth edition of the event. Idea was to curb puppy mill culture and breed specific purchases when there are millions of homeless strays with same characteristics freely available on roads. Empathy should be for all and everyone without discrimination. Here are the few pictures of the finalists and winners with emotional stories as to how these kids survived tough times and defied death and were finally rescued by families who opened their hearts and homes to them.
The Cute Cats
These two babies, once forgotten and alone, have stolen my heart with their resilience and affection. Despite the hardships they’ve faced, they radiate joy, love, and gratitude. Their beauty shines not just from their physical appearance, but from the depth of their spirits. They deserve to win not just a beauty contest, but a chance to be loved, cherished, and celebrated for the precious, unique individuals they are. Their beauty is not just about looks, it’s about the love they bring, the comfort they provide and the joy they inspire. They’re more than just cats – they’re my kids, the survivors and they deserve to be celebrated.
Floofy Fluffy
Fluffy, my 5-year-old desi indie dog, has been more than just a pet to me. She’s a beloved companion, a loyal friend, and a constant source of joy and inspiration. Before Fluffy came into my life, I was going through a tough time. I was struggling with anxiety, feeling lonely, and lacking purpose. But from the moment Fluffy wagged her way into my heart, everything changed. What makes Fluffy’s story even more special is that she’s a rescued dog.
I adopted her when she was just 2 months old, injured with a fracture, and in need of love and care. Watching her grow, heal, and thrive has been an incredible journey. As I look back, I realize that adopting Fluffy was one of the best decisions I ever made. Not only did I give a loving home to a dog in need, but I also gained a loyal companion who has brought immense joy and love into my life. And that’s why I believe adopted indie dogs are the best! They may not have the same pedigree or fancy breeding, but they have hearts of gold and a deep gratitude for the love and care they receive.
Fluffy’s unconditional love and acceptance helped me heal and find happiness again. Her tail wags, snuggles and playful antics brought me endless joy and made me laugh even on my worst days. But Fluffy’s impact went beyond just emotional support. She also encouraged me to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Our daily walks and playtime helped me get exercise, fresh air and a sense of connection with nature. Fluffy also taught me valuable life lessons about resilience, adaptability and living in the moment. Watching her navigate the world with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a carefree spirit inspired me to approach life with a similar attitude.
Today, I’m grateful to say that Fluffy has transformed my life in ways I never thought possible. She’s helped me find purpose, happiness and a sense of belonging. And as I look into her big brown eyes, I know that I owe it all to her love, companionship and unwavering loyalty. So here’s to Fluffy, my dear desi indie dog – thank you for changing my life for the better. I promise to always cherish, care for and love you unconditionally, just as you’ve loved me. And to all the indie dogs out there waiting for a forever home, I say – don’t lose hope! Your humans are out there, and when you find each other, it will be a love unlike any other.
