Just a dash of Shih Tzu sauce compliments celeb couple Sanjay Gagnani & Poonam Preet’s lovey-dovey life
Your life changes in big ways when you welcome a Shih Tzu into your home, whether it’s your first or fifteenth furball. Each is different and special in their own ways but best of all, the pint-sized pooch seems to adapt to our own lifestyle choices. No matter where or how we live, our little furry companion just wants to shower us with love and remain by our side. “If in one word I can describe what he means to me, he is a blessing. I have never treated him as an animal. I have always taken care of him just like how I take care of my family members,” says TV star Sanjay Gagnani, who stole our hearts as Prithvi Malhotra in Kundali Bhagya. Gagnani is talking about Flirty, one of his two super cute Shih Tzus. The other one is named Disney and he isn’t afraid to show it. Honestly, when it comes to dogs, it doesn’t get much cuter than Gagnani’s Shih Tzu couple. “Flirty is a male while Disney is a female and they are the love of my life,” says the actor who’s married to modelturned-actor Poonam Preet Bhatia. Dogs are cute, everyone knows that. And when celebs are also animal lovers, there’s something about that trait that makes them that much more relatable. These actors prove that they’ve gone over the line of puppy love and into obsession territory. Really, though, who can blame them? For these lucky pups, their status has been cemented on the Instagram feeds of their famous owners. While pets should be valued beyond being a mere style accessory, we have to admit, there is something cool about being seen with a dog, especially on a social media post. With their natural warmth and downright adorable looks, dogs add candour to a celeb’s persona, offering a glimpse into their owner’s personal lives. “They are stress busters and make you feel so loved and special.

Two years later, Disney came into our lives,” says the actor who can be seen with his wife in the music video titled ‘Main Ho Gaya Tera’, sung by Ajay Nagarkoti and produced by popular singer Mika Singh. The celebrity couple who is normally busy with their shoots, got to spend time with their pooches at home during the pandemic and learnt how to keep one’s moral high against all odds. “It was really helpful for us because they brought a smile to our faces and kept us positive to go through life,” he says. “As life gets normal, we are getting more opportunities for work and stepping out for vacations and working a lot more. So definitely there are times when we have to leave them at home, but we make sure to give them a lot of our time or take them out for a drive or even go on vacations together.” Gagnani, whose parents live in Surat, often drives down from Mumbai with the dogs so that his family can also meet them. “Poonam is from Delhi, so when she goes there, I look after the pups,” he informs. Since Shih Tzu’s long, flowing double coat is its most distinctive feature needing daily brushing and maintenance, Gagnani takes them regularly to the groomers. “But we also make sure to groom them at home as they require routine bathing and grooming. Giving them a bath is a very relaxing and relieving activity for us and them both.” As for pampering, Gagnani says dogs are just like children and we need to create a balance between pampering and disciplining them. “That’s what we try to do as well,” he says. They are allowed on the couch, but the bed is a strict no-no. Ask him about that one quality that makes dogs oh-so endearing to him and he says, “They are very friendly, even to unknown people…and very lovable, too. They don’t bark much and are very well-mannered around the house.” Dogs, he says, are definitely a human’s best friend and they will do everything to save you. “Dogs have a heart and they feel your pain,” he adds.
