Why Stray Dogs Bite: Reasons and Solutions

Before you fear the bite, learn the reason behind it.

Stray dogs usually bite for several reasons, and some main reasons are fear, abuse, past trauma, and even injury or illness. If a dog feels threatened or scared, it may attack to protect itself and become aggressive at that time. Territorial behaviour can also be the reason, especially for their puppies and food. If they sense that they are in danger, they attack to save themselves from an intruder. Past trauma causes aggression from bad experiences with humans, and if the dog is in pain or has any illness, it can make them aggressive because of the pain.

SOLUTIONS

1. Never disturb a dog that is eating, sleeping, or with puppies.

2. Sometimes stray dogs take time to become friends with humans—be patient with them.

3. Aggressive or injured dogs are very unpredictable because of the pain, so keep a distance from them at that time.

4. Avoid touching an unknown street dog you meet for the first time.

5. Support street dog feeding programs and vaccinations to control stray aggression.

Street dog bite cases are rarely about aggression; the main reasons are always hunger, threat, pain, and poor treatment against them.
